I had no idea this was released in late March 1979. I didn’t hear it until late August the same year. I was floored and fell in love with the record and the new style I didn’t know what to call. I drove my mother crazy playing it over and over again. A week later, Rapper’s Delight is released. I did not like it very much. It was okay as a novelty record, but it wasn’t hardcore hip hop as King Tim III was and THAT was my cup of tea! Followed by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 and Spoonie G, they defined what REAL hip hop is. Definitely not The Sugarhill Gang.
