According to Fox 13 Memphis, the “Where Dem Dollas At” rapper, born Lola Mitchell, was found dead on Jan. 1, 2023, at approximately 4 p.m. Her death was confirmed by Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul, who shared a tribute with a photo of her on Instagram. Although the exact reason for her passing has not been made public, according to TMZ, it “appears to be drug-related,” and authorities have opened a formal investigation.

Many celebrities within the hip-hop community, including Ty Dolla $ign, GloRilla, Missy Elliott, Questlove, and Flo Milli, posted their reflections and condolences on social media.

Born in Memphis on Aug. 7, 1979, Gangsta Boo began rapping as a teenager after starting to write poetry at an early age. According to Gangsta Boo, she was regularly reminded of the unequal treatment of women in hip-hop.

“Men are more chauvinistic than they even know, really. I’ve had to go through certain things where I’ve had to push a titty up or two to get things done, whereas a man doesn’t. He can just scratch his balls and shake hands with a CEO to get his deal signed,” Gangsta Boo told I-D.
